Volgens veel experts vormen lithium-ion batterijbranden een levensbedreigend risico dat is ontstaan als een onbedoeld, maar gevaarlijk neveneffect van de energietransitie van de afgelopen tien jaar. Hydrogel is in staat deze branden zeer effectief te blussen.<\/p>\n<p>Lithium-ion batterijen, gebruikt in e-bikes, mobiele telefoons, laptops, gameconsoles, enzovoort, kunnen door een defect spontaan in brand vliegen. Deze defecten kunnen worden veroorzaakt door:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overladen<\/li>\n<li>Te snel opladen<\/li>\n<li>Schade door fysieke impact\/schok<\/li>\n<li>Warmte<\/li>\n<li>Interne kortsluiting<\/li>\n<li>Fabrieksfouten<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Een defecte lithium-ion batterij kan leiden tot een interne kettingreactie, ook wel thermal runaway genoemd. Door het defect loopt de temperatuur in de batterij op tot het punt waarop een chemische reactie in de batterij ontstaat. Deze chemische reactie produceert nog meer warmte, waardoor de temperatuur verder stijgt en opnieuw chemische reacties ontstaan die n\u00f3g meer warmte genereren. Naarmate de temperatuur stijgt, produceert de batterij sneller warmte dan deze kan afvoeren. Dit leidt tot gasvorming, drukopbouw, brand en mogelijk een explosie.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"308\" data-end=\"614\">Het proces ontwikkelt zich in meerdere fasen, beginnend met zelfverhitting en het falen van de separator, gevolgd door interne kortsluiting en het vrijkomen van brandbare en giftige gassen. Door oppervlaktetemperaturen te verlagen en vlammen te onderdrukken, beperkt Hydrogel de voortgang van thermal runaway en helpt het branduitbreiding binnen batterijpacks te voorkomen.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"377\" data-end=\"590\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Dankzij de hechtende koelende eigenschappen blijft het blusmiddel langer op hete oppervlakken aanwezig dan water alleen.
