“After a long period working in several engineering, sales and management roles in the plastics and textile industry, I decided to start working with Lawrence Batenburg of The Materials Factory to put our many ideas and solutions using the tremendous versatility of materials into a practical business. We stand for a broad and deep chemical knowledge, which we creatively combine with a broad knowledge of various applications and practical experience, which is the best foundation for generating innovative solutions. It is very inspiring to see that this approach also turned out to be a good recipe for fire extinguishing applications, which was completely new and unknown to us, when we started. “My curiosity, creativity, broad experience and know-how drive me to find material solutions for environmental issues. My whole professional career has been devoted to this quest. For this, I started The Materials Factory in Brainport Eindhoven Netherlands, where over the years many sustainable solutions have been developed for a wide range of applications. I invented hydrogel in 2007 for a medical application, but thought it might be suitable to extinguish fires as well. After a few successful trials, I started to look for a customer who might be interested to take this innovation to the market. To my surprise no one was interested. As usual, my idea came too early; the market was not ripe for an environmental friendly fire extinguishing agent at that time. Luckily in 2017, Harry Verbakel joined and we both were enthusiastic about this invention and we restarted the project, doing new trials and further optimizing the product. It was an interesting period, with many ups and downs (indeed innovation is 1% of inspiration and 99% of perspiration), but it finally resulted in the most environmentally friendly and most effective agent for lithium ion battery fires of the world, and we are very proud of it. We decided to produce, sell and further develop our Hydrogel ourselves and therefore established a new company called Anogas. A new adventure has begun! Where it will bring us, we do not know, but it surely will lead to a more sustainable planet for all of us!”
