Hydrogel for recycling applications

Lithium-ion batteries, electronic waste and industrial waste streams create increasing fire risks within modern recycling facilities. Hydrogel combines advanced cooling, thermal isolation and fire suppression properties to help control fires quickly and reduce the risk of re-ignition.

Applications in recycling facilities

Hydrogel can be applied in a wide range of recycling and waste processing environments:

  • Battery recycling facilities
  • Electronic waste processing plants
  • Waste transfer stations
  • Metal recycling operations
  • Storage areas for damaged lithium-ion batteries
  • Industrial shredding and sorting installations

Hydrogel rapidly cools overheated materials, suppresses flames and helps prevent thermal runaway and fire spread.

Re-ignition prevention

One of the main challenges in recycling facilities is the risk of re-ignition caused by damaged lithium-ion batteries hidden within waste streams. Hydrogel forms a cooling and isolating layer that remains attached to hot surfaces longer than water alone.
This improves firefighting effectiveness and supports safer handling of battery-related fire incidents during recycling operations.

Compatible with existing fire systems

Hydrogel can be used in existing water-based fire suppression systems without major infrastructure modifications. Its compatibility with current firefighting equipment allows easy implementation in recycling plants and industrial facilities.
Because less extinguishing agent is required compared to water alone, Hydrogel also helps reduce contaminated runoff water and environmental impact.
