“Fire suppression without PFAS. Built for lithium battery safety”

Hydrogel: Zero-PFAS fire extinguishing technology

Hydrogel represents a new generation of fire extinguishing agents developed for modern fire risks such as lithium-ion batteries, e-mobility systems, energy storage, and industrial applications. Unlike conventional firefighting foams, Hydrogel delivers high fire suppression performance without the use of fluorinated chemicals or PFAS.

The problem with PFAS firefighting foams

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are widely used in firefighting foams because of their excellent spreading and fire suppression properties. However, these “forever chemicals” are highly persistent, bioaccumulative, and linked to serious environmental and health risks.

During firefighting operations and training exercises, PFAS residues contaminate soil, surface water, and groundwater. Long-term exposure has been associated with cancer and other health concerns, particularly for firefighters and emergency responders.

Increasing PFAS regulations in europe

The European Union is introducing strict regulations to phase out PFAS-containing fire extinguishing agents through Regulation (EU) 2025/1988. Between 2025 and 2031, PFAS-based firefighting foams and extinguishers will gradually be banned across Europe.

In parallel, several European countries have submitted additional proposals to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) aimed at achieving a complete PFAS ban for manufacturing and market applications.

Hydrogel: A truly Zero-PFAS solution

Hydrogel is engineered to provide advanced fire suppression performance without any fluorinated compounds.

Key advantages

Hydrogel delivers effective lithium battery fire suppression while minimizing environmental impact and eliminating PFAS exposure.

  • Zero detectable PFAS (≤1 ppb)
  • Fully compatible with future PFAS regulations
  • Rapid cooling and flame suppression
  • Thermal isolation and re-ignition prevention
  • Reduced extinguishing agent consumption
  • Lower environmental impact and contaminated runoff water

Independent laboratory testing confirms that Hydrogel contains no detectable PFAS at extremely low measurement limits, far below current and future European regulatory thresholds.
